The Urban Gypsy opened its doors in January 08. It is not your average furniture store. It is the passion of owner Jason McGill.
New people, new ideas and new homes need new furniture. Why not get that from somewhere right in your own backyard. The Urban Gypsy’s Funky Furnishings are all imported from South Asia. Items come from India, Nepal, Indonesia, Thailand, Tibet and others.
Items include handmade silver jewellery, hand knotted carpets, classic dining tables in exotic hardwoods and furniture from the basic to the extremely unique. You can find a simple little coffee table or a carved mahogany throne that belonged to the Indonesian Government.
The Urban Gypsy sees a real niche missing for people that want great quality, hardwood furniture at affordable prices. Why pay for “assemble it yourself particleboard” when you can get real wood furniture that will last you a lifetime for a comparable price?
The Urban Gypsy believes in fair trade and knows every manufacturer and supplier personally, eliminating the middlemen. There is also a strong focus on “Green Retailing”. New furniture is mostly from Shesham, (Indian Rosewood), which comes from sustainable forests and there is a wonderful mix of Antique and Reclaimed Wood pieces, which are the epitome of recycling.
There is interesting giftware with statues and décor items such as hand carved Budhha’s and Indian Deities.
